Pastiche Information
IB Assignment #2

Assignment #2 is based on World Lit. works from Parts I, III, and IV that have not been used in Assignment #1.  You may complete:
a. a comparative study (based on 1 World Lit. work and one other work)
b. an imaginative or creative assignment (based on 1 World Lit. work or 1 World Lit. work and one other work).
c. A detailed study (based on 1 World Lit. work)

You will complete a pastiche (option b) for most of the required IB works we study this year,  They are requirements for the IB program and for this course.

The IB program defines a pastiche as “an imaginative or recreation of an already published work.  In this assignment, the candidate is encouraged to demonstrate his/her sensitivity to, and understanding of, a work by providing an original composition after the manner of the text.  The candidate must include, within the prescribed word limit, an evaluation of his/her aims and achievement.”

You should capture the style of the author in your piece, but remember that ALL literary elements (i.e. theme, characterization, symbolism, etc.) should be intact/ should remain consistent with the work in your pastiche.

Requirements:
A. Preface:  Write a brief explanation of your goals; state explicitly what you are trying to accomplish in your pastiche.  What themes or symbols are you reflecting?  Set out your thesis concept.  DO NOT SUMMARIZE.  If appropriate, tell where your pastiche fits into the text.  Your preface should only be a paragraph.
B. Pastiche:  YOU HAVE MUCH CREATIVE LICENSE.  Just about anything is possible…
Ideas:
- find gaps in the text and write the scene we don’t actually witness
- continue the work/ add a scene
- create conversations that didn’t actually occur
- perhaps intersperse actual text in your pastiche

Total Word count, including preface:  1000-1500 words
