HIGH SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL ESSAY ASSIGNMENT
Part I:
Students write a practice AP free response based on the reading "High School Confidential" on the following prompt. Students have no longer than 40 minutes to complete their essays.
Prompt: Using Denby's descriptions of stock characters, analyze characters in popular television shows or movies. COnsider whether they are faithful to the types he identifies.
Part II:
Once you have finished your essay, complete the following assignment:
1. Working either on your own or with a partner, review the above prompt for the practice free response essay on "High School Confidential."
2. Attempt to anticipate what a College Board grader might be looking for in a strong essay.
3. Fill in the blank rubric that follows. Determine what a weak paper, an acceptable paper, and a strong paper might look like, and, in the blank provided on the rubric, complete a brief description of those works. Remember: This is entirely your anticipation. We will review the actual rubric together later.
4. Evaluate your essay to determine whether your own essay would fall into the weak, the acceptable, or the strong essay categories.
